Our Activities

If you are a visually impaired person and are local to Cornwall please contact us and we can arrange a sailing opportunity for you. BATS can also help to organise transport for visually impaired members.

BATS activities are made possible by volunteers who skipper the boats and help assist Vi s and provide competent crews.

Vi members have the opportunity, if they wish, to participate in all aspects of the Club, BATS welcomes all new members and volunteers. Experience is not necessary as training is available. This is provided through the Club’s own resource. Volunteers with admin/fund raising skills and willing drivers are all very welcome.

All visually impaired and blind people are welcome to enjoy the delights of BATs, even if they have never been on the water before!

Sailing

The Club sails every Saturdays and if there is demand we can arrange extra sailing days during the week.

We actively encourage hands on’ sailing, all participants can get involved in all aspects of sailing, including crewing, helming and racing. However if you prefer a more relaxed approach then sit back and enjoy the scenery whilst eating cream teas and listening to the magical sounds of the sea and gentle rocking of the boat. BATS operate a full programme of sailing events using our own yacht which is kept on a mooring a short walk from the Belfry

Other activities Include day cruises or the weekend in Fowey and sails to the Pandora pub on a hot summers evening.

For the more competitive members of BATs on Friday evenings during the summer months Mylor yacht club partake in racing in the harbour. If Bats members can pull together a crew and skipper this makes for an enjoyable and challenging evening.

Gig Rowing

Thanks to the generosity of penryn Gig club we are able to offer a gig rowing from Mylor slipway (boat hire car park) Gig rowing is offered throughout the winter however this is dependent on the weather.

Today gig rowing with BATS need not be a strenuous activity; it can be fun, friendly and exhilarating! Why not give it a try? BATS gig rowing takes place in the picturesque, tranquil setting of Mylor Harbour on alternate Monday evenings, starting in May. During the winter months it takes place Saturday mornings as weather permits.

No experience is necessary, and under the guidance of excellent coxes from Nankersey gig club BATS members can experience the joy of gig rowing. For more information contact: Hermione Morrison 01326 574720

If we have enough BATs members who wish to go fishing we can go out to sea with one of the charter boats in Falmouth. These trips normally last about 3 to 4 hours a and you will visit several sites to fish. Whatever you catch you can take home for your supper.
